Colombian singer Yeison Jiménez among six killed in plane crash

Colombian singer Yeison Jiménez has died aged 34 in a plane crash alongside five others.

The deaths were announced by Colombia’s Special Administrative Unit of Civil Aeronautics on X over the weekend. They solemenly shared, “We inform the public about an aviation accident that occurred today. The crash of an aircraft with registration N325FA has been confirmed in the sector between Paipa and Duitama.”

A message posted on Jiménez’s Instagram account, which boasts over five-and-a-half million followers, later confirmed that he was among those who lost their lives in the crash.

The statement reads, “With heavy hearts and indescribable grief, Yeison Jiménez’s organisation and team deeply regret to announce his passing.”

It continues, “Today, we not only say goodbye to an artist; we say goodbye to a son, a brother, a friend, a human being full of dreams and courage, who transformed his story into a source of hope for thousands.”

The message also states, “We send our deepest condolences, our absolute solidarity, and our prayers to their families during this difficult time.”

In addition to Jiménez, Jefferson Osorio, Juan Manuel, Oscar Marín, Weisman Mora, and Captain Fernando Torres also tragically died.

According to The Sun, the plane belonged to Jiménez’s company, YJ Company SAS, and burst into flames moments after take-off at 4pm on January 10th in Paipa. He was due to travel to Medellin to perform in the nearby town of Marinilla that evening.

Jiménez established himself as one of the biggest stars in Colombia’s música popular genre. He first sold out the Movistar Arena in Bogotá in 2024, which will also be the location of his funeral, according to InfoBae.

Following the funeral, Jiménez’s body will be moved to the Jardines del Recuerdo cemetery in Bogotá. He is expected to be buried next to Oscar Marín, his manager, who also died during the tragic crash.

Jiménez is survived by his Sonia Restrepo, as well as their three children. His daughter Camila Jiménez has honoured her father on social media, writing, “I love you dad. You don’t know how much it hurts me to see your videos and for you not to be here.”
