Colman Domingo confirmed for Cowardly Lion in ‘Wicked: For Good’
Oscar-nominee Colman Domingo has been confirmed to voice the Cowardly Lion in Wicked: For Good.
The upcoming film, directed by Jon M Chu, is set to arrive in cinemas on November 21st, 2025, and has now bolstered its cast with the addition of Domingo.
The news of Domingo’s involvement was confirmed on the social media channels for the movie, which shared a video of the actor surrounded by lion plushie toys, before telling viewers with a knowing wink, “See you in Oz”.
Chu recently revealed that a Hollywood A-lister had agreed to voice the Cowardly Lion during an interview with Deadline.
The director shared that he took to Instagram to secure the actor for the movie, revealing, “I was like, ‘It’s not a ton of lines, but maybe you have a little time. I know you’re busy. I’ll come to you.’ He was like, ‘Why the fuck not, let’s go!’ And then we went ahead and recorded the lines.”
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo lead the cast, who both received Oscar nominations for their performance in the 2024 movie Wicked. It also features Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Marissa Bode, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum.
The official synopsis explains that Erivo’s character Elphaba is “now demonized as The Wicked Witch of the West, lives in exile, hidden within the Ozian forest while continuing her fight for the freedom of Oz’s silenced Animals and desperately trying to expose the truth she knows about The Wizard (Jeff Goldblum).”
The plot continues: “Glinda, meanwhile, has become the glamorous symbol of Goodness for all of Oz, living at the palace in Emerald City and reveling in the perks of fame and popularity. Under the instruction of Madame Morrible (Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh), Glinda is deployed to serve as an effervescent comfort to Oz, reassuring the masses that all is well under the rule of The Wizard.”
Wicked: For Good will arrive in cinemas on November 21st, 2025.
