Christopher Nolan reportedly shut out from directing James Bond film by Barbara Broccoli
Christopher Nolan was shut out from directing a James Bond film after expressing interest in contributing to the franchise, it has been reported.
This news comes after Amazon MGM announced that they will be taking full creative control over the iconic spy films after the previous producers, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wison stepped down from their roles.
Nolan was reportedly interested in directing a Bond flick after the release of Tenet in 2020, according to. Variety, but it is believed that Broccoli would not allow him to have control over a film while she was still partially controlling the franchise due to how he demands final cut authority on the films he makes.
He would go on to work on Oppenheimer as an alternative to getting involved with Bond, and received the coveted ‘Best Picture’ at the Oscars in 2024 while raking in over $1billion in box office revenue.
With Bond now under Amazon’s control, it is uncertain what the future of the franchise holds, but it is believed that the next feature film remains the main priority for the studio, with the potential for a TV series to be created should it pass regulatory approval in the US and UK.
No announcements have been made as to who will succeed Daniel Craig as the next actor to portray the famous fictional spy, with the British actor having last appeared in the role in 2021’s No Time To Die, which he confirmed would be his final film in the role.
Negotiations to hand over the rights to the franchise reportedly began in 2024, with Amazon executive chairman Jeff Bezos signing off on the deal that took over a year to be completed.
