Chet Faker is back with a bang on ‘Get High’

Chet Faker - 'Get High'

Chet Faker has followed up his return ‘Low’ with a brand new single ‘Get High’ which lands as the perfect antidote to the lockdown blues. It’s the second single Nick Murphy, AKA Chet Faker, has released since reinvigorating his project in late 2020 amid a global pandemic and an apocalyptic edge to everyday life.

The new single, ‘Get High’ arrives via Detail Records and a self-made music video that you can find below. If the song title didn’t give you an inkling, the visuals are everything you need to know about the track — a kaleidoscope of swirling colours and mind-melting animation.

The song is pulsing with funky swagger, and Muprhy does his best to keep the party going no matter how terrible the world outside feels. “Sometimes you just need a break,” says Murphy about ‘Get High.’ “I find myself wanting to escape just for a little while and the song sort of showed up on its own.”

Speaking with Australian radio station triple j, Murphy compounded this sentiment by suggesting the world needs to hit the ‘off-switch’ every once in a while. “The world just needs to relax right now… everyone needs to chill out. That’s what the song is; it’s kinda funny and silly. I just want people to just vibe out… take a little exit in whatever fashion they find appropriate,” he said.

It’s hard not to feel that sentiment oozing out of the airwaves whenever you drop the needle. The track is bristling with groove, and a bassline that demands the full attention of your entire body runs the show. As the world begins to feel a little less scary, this kind of irreverent bounce and musical enjoyment suddenly feels all the more appropriate.

We could sit here and wax lyrically about the highs and lows of the new Chet Faker song, about how it signals a brighter new year for both Murphy and hopefully the entire world. But that would be missing the point. This song is all about letting go. So, sit back and let the vibes flow out.
