Chastity Belt announce new album with lead single ‘Hollow’
Pacific Northwest rockers Chastity Belt have announced their fifth studio record, Live Laugh Love, and shared lead single ‘Hollow’. The new record will be released on March 29th, 2024, via Suicide Squeeze Records.
Spawned from a jam session during the pandemic, ‘Hollow’ features subdued guitars and pretty harmonies that declare, “Waiting for some sign, wasting time, breathe in hollow air, nothing’s there, I wanna trust myself again”. Vocalist and guitarist Julia Shapiro dubs it a “classic Chazzy-style tune about feeling lost and stuck, waiting for something to change without necessarily taking action”.
“The older I get,” she continued, “The more I realise that I might just always feel this way, and it’s more about sitting with the feeling and accepting it, rather than trying to fight it. I’m still here, doing my thing, whatever that is.”
The new track is accompanied by a music video directed by Nick Shively, which seems to poke fun at the upcoming record’s namesake. In the image of a lifestyle vlogger, Chastity Belt poke fun at ring lights, cooking videos, and cliché home decor.
“In each shot, we were performing in order to make our friend in the room laugh, taking each bit to the next level, seeking joy in late capitalism,” guitarist Lydia Lund explained.
‘Hollow’ is set to open their forthcoming album Live Laugh Love, which will mark their first full-length release since the self-titled Chastity Belt in 2019. Recorded over three years, the new album is set to land on March 29th, 2024.
