Chas and Dave singer Chas Hodges has died, aged 74

Chas Hodges, the singer of the Chas and Dave duo, has died aged 74.

The cult rock pop group, who coined their own genre known as musical style ‘rockney’, rose to fame in the 1970s for their rock and cockney style and had a string of hit songs such as Rabbit, Snooker Loopy and more.

A statement from the band, said: “It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of our very own Chas Hodges.

“Despite receiving successful treatment for oesophageal cancer recently, Chas suffered organ failure and passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of this morning.”

A message the official website added: “We would like to thank our fans for their fantastic support and goodwill at this difficult time.”
