Charli XCX shares John Cale collaboration, ‘House’
Charli XCX has shared a new collaboration with John Cale, titled ‘House’. It’s the first track to be taken from her soundtrack album for Wuthering Heights.
Speaking of her inspirations behind the song, the singer explained that after she has been approached to create the soundtrack by the movie’s director, Emerald Fennell, she became drawn to a quote from The Velvet Underground’s Cale, where he said the band’s music had to be “elegant and brutal”.
Recalling how she then connected with the musician on the song, she continued: “I decided to reach out to him to get his opinion on the songs that his phrase had so deeply inspired, but also to see whether he might want to collaborate on any.”
Noting how they then had a conversation about a poem inspired by what she had already written for ‘House’, Charli added: “He recorded something and sent it to me. Something that only John could do. And it was… well, it made my cry.”
As the first taste of her reimagined soundtrack to the classic novel, ‘House’ is a significant moment in the Brat singer’s artistic journey. “I feel so lucky to have been able to work with John on this song. I’ve been so excited to share it with you all, sitting quietly in anticipation,” she concluded.
Following on from her musical venture with Wuthering Heights, the singer will next appear in front of the screen in her first co-produced film, The Moment. Being helmed by A24 and director Aidan Zamiri, it will be based on an original idea by the musician which is yet to be revealed.
The upcoming film adaptation of Wuthering Heights, along with its full soundtrack from Charli XCX, will be released on February 14th, 2026.
