Watch Charli XCX contemplate love in new ‘Eurpcja’ trailer
Charli XCX continues her foray into the world of film in the new trailer for Pete Ohs’ Eurpcja, on a transformative vacation in Poland.
The new film follows Bethany, played by the Grammy-winner, who rejects the romantic itinerary planned by her boyfriend, Rob, in favour of her own exploration of Warsaw. Lena Góra, Will Madden and Jeremy O. Harris round out the central cast.
In fear that a marriage proposal is imminent, Bethany reunites with an old friend, Nel. Together, as per the official synopsis, “The two women rekindle a uniquely combustible chemistry over the course of a few days in a chaste but burning trust predicated on sapphic synchronicity and a mutual penchant for poetry.”
The trailer sees the couple stranded in the country after a nearby volcano erupts, and grounds all flights until the disaster is over. Bethany swaps out cuddling for clubbing, peeling back layers she hadn’t realised had formed through her old friendship.
“My boyfriend’s gonna propose tomorrow,” Charli XCX laments in the trailer. “With him, the earth doesn’t shake.”
Ohs’ is known for writing and directing feature films such as 2022’s Jethica and 2017’s Everything Beautiful Is Far Away. For this project, Ohs helmed the feature but co-wrote the script with Charli XCX, Góra and Harris.
Charli XCX has cinematic projects coming hot and fast; After making her big-screen acting debut in Julia Jackman’s period fantasy, 100 Nights of Hero, she currently takes centre stage in the A24 mockumentary, The Moment. She is also slated for roles in upcoming movies Faces of Death, The Gallerist and I Want Your Sex.
Additionally, her collaboration with the coveted horror director, Takashi Miike, will begin production later this month in Japan; plot details and extra cast have recently been revealed.
Erupcja is scheduled for an April 17th cinematic release. Watch the full trailer below.
