Cause of death revealed for ‘Dazed and Confused’ actor Nicky Katt
The cause of death for American actor Nicky Katt, whose passing was announced on April 13th, has now been revealed.
Katt made his first appearance as an actor in the 1980 series Fantasy Island when he was just 10 years old, and he soon went on to land consistent roles in many successful productions.
Other minor roles came in movies like Gremlins, Sister Act, and The ‘Burbs before he starred in Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused, playing the bully Clint Bruno.
Katt continued to act until making his last on-screen appearance in 2018 with a small role on the show Casual. He then cared for his mother, who eventually passed away in 2023.
According to Deadline, the cause of the actor’s death was suicide by hanging. His sister, Elise Ravenscroft, shared a statement which read: “He died by suicide after battling with depression – one that he fought bravely but quietly. This is a pain no family should endure, yet far too many do.”
She added, “Mental illness is real, it is powerful, and it is often invisible. We hope that by sharing this, we can help break the silence and stigma that so often surrounds mental health struggles.”
Katt worked with Linklater throughout his career, also appearing in subUrbia, School of Rock, and Waking Life. The actor appeared in classic ‘90s movies like The Doom Generation and A Time to Kill as well as appearing in Quentin Tarantino’s 2007 film Death Proof and Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight.
