Major casting changes revealed for ‘Industry’ season four

In September last year, it was announced that the BBC and HBO series Industry would be renewed for a fourth season, following the programme’s resounding success on both sides of the Atlantic. Now, the production has announced major casting changes, including the departure of key figures and the introduction of new faces.

Focusing on the high-pressure world of investment banking in London, Industry provided a breakout role for multiple actors when it first aired in November 2020 on HBO in the US and BBC Two in the UK. Among those actors was Harry Lawtey, who portrayed the arrogant young finance graduate Robert Spearing. However, it has now been announced that Lawtey will not appear in the fourth season, which is due to commence filming in March.

At the end of the third series, Lawtey’s character leaves Pierpoint & Co to work at a startup, which it seemed would open up the world of Industry to wider storylines.

However, the actor himself has become in demand following his appearance on Industry, and the reason for his departure, according to reporting by Deadline, is scheduling conflicts with other projects.

Meanwhile, the majority of the previous season’s cast is set to return, including Myha’la, Marisa Abela, Ken Leung, Sagar Radia, and Miriam Petche. The fourth series will also include new additions to the cast, notably Max Minghella, who has previously starred in The Mindy Project, Babylon, The Social Network, and The Handmaid’s Tale, the latter of which saw him nominated for an Emmy.

Although details surrounding the upcoming series are relatively scarce, Variety has reported that Minghella will play Whitney Halberstram. The new character is the founder and CFO of Tender, a company described as a “payment processor entering a growth phase.”

At the time of writing, no release date has been set for series four of Industry. With filming due to commence in the UK in March, it seems unlikely that viewers will be able to view the exploits of Whitney Halberstram and the rest of the cast until the latter months of 2025 at the earliest.
