Cass McCombs has us entranced with new song ‘The Wine of Lebanon’
Cass McCombs has shared a brand new track and it has the power to transport you out of lockdown if only for a few moments. Listen to our Track of the Day, ‘The Wine of Lebanon’.
One of our favourite singer-songwriters, Cass McCombs is here to rescue you for a short while as he sings us into a meditative state with the lilting and sumptuous new song.
“‘The Wine of Lebanon’ is a song that centres around the line: ‘what can I offer you?‘” McCombs said of the new track. Judging by the output he’s offering a sesne of normality and visions of dinner parties yet to be had.
“It is about ritual offerings to the departed and wine as allegory for life. The band comprised of Dan Iead on electric guitar and pedal steel, Frank Locrasto on Rhodes and synth, Noga Shefi on bass, Yoni Shelig on drums and myself on piano.”
The song arrives in partnership with Universal Audio and their new recording system LUNA. The transcendent song comes along with footage of McCombs recording it in the company’s debut LUNA session.
“They were still writing the code for LUNA in the control room as we were recording, which was thrilling. It felt a little, I mean very little, like being part of the crew of a space shuttle launch. Everyone’s guts were in knots. The ashtrays were overflowing. A nervous nation watched on live television. Families embraced in anticipation, fearing the worst. I jest.”
Below you can watch the video of the recording but we’d suggest kicking back and letting McCombs sonics transport you to another place.
