Watch Caroline Polachek cover Grimes and Dido in the same song

During a recent live show in Melbourne, Caroline Polachek performed Grimes and Dido covers over the instrumental for her song ‘Fly To You’.

Polachek is currently touring in Australia and stopped off at Melbourne’s Forum Theatre for two concerts earlier this week. The tour supports the singer’s most recent album, Desire, I Want To Turn Into You, which features collaborations with Grimes and Dido on ‘Fly To You’.

While performing on December 11th, Polachek gave the song an extra twist. Instead of singing the lyrics as she wrote them, she sang Grimes’ ‘Delete Forever’ and Dido’s ‘Thank You’ over the ‘Fly To You’ progression.

Desire, I Want to Turn Into You marked Polachek’s fourth studio album upon its arrival back in February. As a follow-up to 2019’s Pang, the album was unfortunately hampered in production by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I wasn’t seeing the sun for weeks because the studios and arenas are all sunless spaces in the middle of winter. It was very disorienting,” she said of recording the album in April. “I decided rather than fighting that, I should just bring that spirit of this whirlwind mash into the music and let that feeling of being in transit, of being caught between moments, just become part of the character of the album.”

Throughout the year, Polachek has toured the world in support of the new album and performed supporting sets for The 1975 on their Being Funny in a Foreign Language tour. With one final show to perform in Australia on December 13th, the singer will take a break to see out the year.
