Caribou shares first new song in 5 years, the brilliant ‘Home’
It’s been five long years since we heard from Caribou, aka Dan Sanith, with 2014’s Our Love acting as the last reminder of his talent. We needn’t wait any longer as the new song ‘Home’ is here and is our Track of the Day.
The Canadian producer has been making us wait for his follow up to the 2014 album, but it appears that wait is over as the new track was premiered last night on BBC Radio 1 as Annie Mac’s ‘Hottest Record in the World’. Alongside that wonderful news, Snaith also shared that he will be embarking on a UK tour next year.
For any heavy soul fans out there, the smaple will be very familiar. Caribou’s track is built around Gloria Barnes’ soul song of the same name and adds a beautiful sepia tone to the otherwise grovve-laden jam.
“I’m always listening to lots of music and sometimes a loop just jumps out at me – it’s too perfect. That’s how it was with Gloria Barnes’ ‘Home’ – I kept returning to it, meaning to do something with it but not knowing what.
“Sometimes making music feels like a process I’m in charge of … but there other times, when things just present themselves and my job is to follow their lead. It wasn’t until the circumstances of someone close to me mirrored the refrain of the original song that the track all came together.”
Snaith continued to talk about the song which he says is about “moments when something changes suddenly”, and goes on to “catalyses a change in your whole life – when you need to go back to something familiar, pick up the pieces and start again.”
