Cappella Bangkok named world’s best hotel
50 Best have unveiled this year’s curated list of the best hotels in the world, with Capella Bangkok in Thailand coming out on top.
The list was voted for by 600 anonymous industry leaders and was unveiled on September 17th at the Guildhall in London. It includes hotels situated all over the world, from Italy to Indonesia. Last year, Passalacqua in Lake Como, Italy took home the top spot, but this year the establishment has dropped down to second place.
Instead, Capella Bangkok tops the list in 2024, which 50 Best describe as “a calming riverside oasis in the centre of cacophonous Bangkok.” The hotel was praised for its generous room sizes, a personable of “Capella Culturists,” and its ability to provide serenity in such a busy city. A night at the Capella will set you back $600 at the starting rate.
John Blanco, the general manager of the hotel, spoke to CNN after the hotel won the top spot. “When you come to Bangkok, it’s crazy, it’s chaotic, it’s funky, it’s noisy,” he stated, “but when you come to the hotel, you’re in this little moment of Zen: the sanctuary, the garden with beautiful trees full of birds.”
Lake Como’s Passalacqua still ranks highly on the list, just narrowly missing out on the top spot but taking home the Calo Alberto Best Boutique Hotel Award and the Best Hotel in Europe. With a starting rate of $1300, the hotel is situated in an 18th-century villa by the lake, with terraces for drinking and dining.
The Rosewood in Hong Kong takes home bronze. 50 Best described it as “masterful minimalist meets marble-lined luxury.” It’s a much larger hotel than the Passalacqua, with just over 400 rooms and 11 restaurants. It also boasts artwork from the likes of Damien Hirst and Henry Moore.
The Cheval Blanc in Paris and The Upper House in Hong Kong round out the top five list, while Raffles Signapore, Aman Tokyo, Soneva Fushi in the Maldives, Dubai’s Atlantis The Royal, and Nihi Sumba all make the top ten.
