Butthole Surfers are recording their first album in 16 years

Butthole Surfers are on the way back into the studio to record their first new album in 16 years.

The Austin-based band has not released anything since 2001’s Weird Revolution. However, according to the Austin Chronicle, the news was broken by engineer-producer Stuart Sullivan at a recent meeting of the city’s music commission after mentioning that he is going to be working with the band.

Following the revelation, guitarist Paul Leary confirmed their plans and Sullivan’s involvement but didn’t go into any specific details.

“We’ve all been busy with our own separate things, and I’ve done a lot of producing in the past few years, and I’ve got to the point now where I feel like I’ve done doing that for a while, so it’s time to make a new Butthole Surfers album,” he said.

“Especially now that Trump is president, jeez! If there was ever a time for a Butthole Surfers album it’s fucking now. It just doesn’t get any weirder than that.”
