Bully Covers Belle and Sebastian’s ‘Get Me Away From Here I’m Dying’

Having successfully released easily one of the albums of the year so far Nashville’s Bully are doing a good job at permanently boring a hole in to our heart and setting up camp. This latest cover of Belle and Sebastian’s track ‘Get Me Away From Here I’m Dying’ has just banged in another tent peg.

So far removed from the original this brilliant cover adds the band’s urgency and fiery temperament to replace the charming sound of the original. Alicia Bognanno again sounds triumphant in her defiance and completely makes this track her own.

A song which is drenched in meaningful lyrics don’t necessarily resonate with Bognanno as she talks with ROOKIE magazine she said No, I have a more optimistic outlook. But I just love the line, “Get me away from here, I’m dying.” It’s so overdramatic, and I love to sing it—I don’t know why, but it feels really good to scream it. I want to be all, “I feel like I can relate to the whole song,” but, honestly, it was just that line that swayed it for me.”

She makes a good show of covering it up and adding Bully’s, now signature, sound to a heartfelt letter of desperation makes for one great song.
