Buck Meek shares two new singles, ‘Cuero Dudes’ and ‘Beauty Opens Doors’

The guitarist of Big Thief, Buck Meek, has shared two new solo singles, ‘Cuero Dudes’ and ‘Beauty Opens Doors’. The soaring solo artist is set to embark on a North American tour later in January.

‘Beauty Opens Doors’ is a new composition that swirls delicately as an acoustic lullaby with typewriter taps as percussion tracks. Meanwhile, ‘Cuero Dudes’ arrives as a rework of ‘Cyclades’, a single from his latest album.

Last year, Meek released his highly-acclaimed third solo album, Haunted Mountain, via 4AD. The record featured several songs co-written with one of Buck’s long-standing idols, Jolie Holland.

Haunted Mountain was inspired by Meek’s ruminations on love and a quest for honesty. In an August 2023 interview with The Line of Best Fit, the singer-songwriter revealed the driving force behind his recent embrace of lovesongs.

“About four years ago, I fell in love with this woman in the Netherlands – who is now my wife, Germaine Dunes – and of course we were very far apart,” he said. “We met each other once, then we wrote letters for a year, and then we would meet in different places around Europe.

“Whenever I finished a tour, I would bring my tent with me, and we would go to the mountains and camp, just for a week or two. And there would be a lot of time in between where we would be writing. So, a lot of the seeds for these songs came from that time in my life. That definitely encouraged me to write love songs.”
