Bryan Singer has filmed a secret movie starring Jon Voight about Israeli occupation of Lebanon
Director Bryan Singer has directed a secret movie starring Jon Veight. It marks his first project since facing a wave of sexual misconduct allegations in 2019.
Singer’s last movie was the 2018 biopic on Freddie Mercury, Bohemian Rhapsody, starring Rami Malek. Although he was fired close to the end of production due to his alleged behaviour on set and replaced by director Dexter Fletcher, Singer retained the director credit on the Oscar-winning film.
The American director was first accused of sexual misconduct by two minors in 1997, who alleged they were ordered to strip naked for a scene in Apt Pupil. He faced further lawsuits in 2014 and 2017, but has never faced any criminal charges.
Despite the accusations, Singer continued to work in Hollywood until The Atlantic published a report in 2019 detailing allegations from minors against the director, which the filmmaker strongly denied.
Now, Variety have confirmed Singer shot a secret project with Voight in 2023. Filming took place in Greece, and Israeli filmmaker Yariv Horovoitz is also believed to be involved with the movie.
The movie is set in the Middle East during the late 1970s or early ’80s, when Israel, where Singer currently lives, occupied Lebanon.
A source told Variety it is “a really well made film with awards-season potential” but expects it to be “a huge hotbed of controversy” due to the subject matter. They added: “It makes Israel look really bad and could be polarizing.”
The film does not have a release plan at this stage.
