“Generous” act made by Bruce Willis on ‘Armageddon’ set revealed

Following his retirement from the acting profession due to his battle with dementia, several figures in the movie industry have offered glowing accounts of Bruce Willis in both professional and personal terms.

Now, it’s come to light that Willis delivered an act of kindness when he was making the 1998 science fiction action movie Armageddon, which impressed the cast and crew who were taken aback by the gesture.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently revealed in an interview with People magazine that Willis gave away a portion of his earnings from the film, showcasing his unselfish nature. This decision was merely made because the actor wanted the crew to have some “nice extra cash at the end of the week.” “Bruce is such a good guy,” Bruckheimer noted. “He was so generous to the crew.”

The producer continued, “They’d have [cash giveaway] drawings, and he’d throw a lot of money in the hat, and the crew members would always take away some nice extra cash at the end of the week, whoever won.”

Armageddon was directed by Michael Bay and also starred Billy Bob Thornton, Liv Tyler and Ben Affleck. It tells of a group of oil drillers who are sent into space by NASA to destroy a huge asteroid heading for Earth by detonating a nuclear bomb inside it.

Bruckheimer said that Willis is a “good guy” and a “good friend” and explained how the crew of Armageddon had a pot of cash going for a winner at the end of each week. Willis was sure to add to the jackpot with his own money as the highest-paid actor on the set.

Willis was diagnosed with aphasia back in 2022, which turned out to have stemmed from frontotemporal dementia. In November last year, Willis’ daughter Tallulah gave an update on her father and the family’s battle to look after him.

“He is the same…which I think, in this regard, I’ve learned is the best thing that you can ask for,” she said. “And what I see is love when I am with him. And it’s my dad, and he loves me. On the one hand, it’s who we are as a family, but it’s also really important for us to spread awareness about FTD.”

Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that the actor’s wife Emma Heming Willis, will publish a book about her experience becoming her husband’s caregiver. Set for publication in 2025, it promises to offer “offer a thoughtful, inspiring guide for those seeking support while navigating a loved one’s dementia.”
