Bruce Springsteen reveals why he “couldn’t care less” about what Donald Trump thinks of him

The feud between Bruce Springsteen and Donald Trump is a long and ferocious one, and persists today. The ‘Born in the USA’ singer, though, has admitted that he “couldn’t care less” about what Trump thinks about him.

Their public feuding match kicked up a notch at the beginning of this summer during Springsteen’s UK and European dates in May and June, where he variously branded the US administration as “corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous.”

Trump hit back, calling the classic singer “dumb as a rock” and even threatening Springsteen on Truth Social: “This dried out “prune” of a rocker (his skin is all atrophied!) ought to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT until he gets back into the Country, that’s just “standard fare.” Then we’ll all see how it goes for him!” Trump then posted a meme depicting himself striking Springsteen down with a golf ball.

The interviewer at Time referenced this specific post when asking Springsteen about the particulars of their feud. As a response, Springsteen laughed and said, “I absolutely couldn’t care less what he thinks about me.”

He then criticised Trump’s lifestyle, commenting: “He’s the living personification of what the 25th Amendment and impeachment were for. If Congress had any guts, he’d be consigned to the trash heap of history.”

Despite his own disdain for the President, Springsteen has recognised that some of his audience aren’t fully convinced of that fact. He shared, “A lot of people bought into his lies. He doesn’t care about the forgotten anybody but himself and the multibillionaires who stood behind him on Inauguration Day.” Springsteen struggles with another truth: “You have to face the fact that a good number of Americans are simply comfortable with his politics of power and dominance.”

Springsteen has a mass of political songs in his discography, and he isn’t planning on slowing down now. He has maintained his ambivalence towards Trump’s threats for one key reason: “If I’m going to stay true to who I’ve tried to be, I can’t give these guys a free pass.”
