Brit Awards 2025: Fontaines DC crowned ‘International Group of the Year’

Fontaines DC have scooped the Brit Award for ‘International Group of the Year’ at London’s O2 Arena.

While the Irish band weren’t in attendance due to their ongoing touring commitments in Australia, in a pre-recorded message, the group’s Grian Chatten said: “We weren’t expecting to get it, this year in particular we’re up against some great people in that category. Amyl (and the Sniffers) – one of the most inspiring bands at the moment”.

Since releasing their fourth album last year, Fontaines DC have been riding a crest of the wave and show no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

This summer is set to be the biggest of their career, with huge outdoor dates plotted in London, Manchester, Newcastle, and Cardiff. These dates will confirm their ascent to headliner status for major festivals in Europe.

Their victory tonight marks the second Brit Award for the Dublin band’s career after they previously scooped the same award in 2023 following their third album Skinty Fia. They were also nominated in the same category in 2021 but lost out to Haim.

The other nominees in the category at the 2025 edition of the Brit Awards were Amyl and The Sniffers, Confidence Man, Linkin Park and hip-hop duo Future and Metro Boomin.

Fontaines DC recently returned last month with their new single, ‘It’s Amazing To Be Young’, which didn’t feature on their acclaimed album Romance which was crowned among Far Out’s top albums of 2024.

According to the band’s Conor Deegan III, this was directly inspired by the birth of Carlos O’Connell’s child.

“The feeling of hope a child can give is profound and moving, especially for young men like us,” Deegan said. “That sense of wanting to create a world for them to grow up in happily. It’s a feeling that fights against the cynicism that can often overtake us in the modern world.”
