Brit Awards 2024: Boygenius win ‘International Group of the Year’
At the Brit Awards 2024, Boygenius swooped the prize for ‘International Group of the Year’. The award seals a hugely successful stint for the supergroup ahead of their hiatus as they return to their solo projects.
The band fended off tough competition from fellow nominees, Foo Fighters, Gabriels, Paramore, and Blink-182, at this year’s ceremony in London. It was a popular choice among the young audience who celebrated the positive signs of progression exhibited by female rockers claiming the award.
This follows the huge success of the Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker collective at the Grammys 2024 in Los Angeles, where they picked up three awards for ‘Best Alternative Music Album,’ ‘Best Rock Performance’ and ‘Best Rock Song’.
Despite the wins, the band are still going ahead with their hiatus, recently announcing: “This is our last show, and we’re feeling it.” They closed that final set with ‘Not Strong Enough’. Dacus proclaimed to the crowd at their LA show, “This is our last song,” before Baker quickly followed up with, “Not ever.” So, it would seem that they certainly plan to ride again.
This year’s Brit Awards took place at London’s O2 Arena. Maya Jama, Roman Kemp and Clara Amfo split the hosting duties for the night. The trio had previously worked together on the Brit Awards pre-show for ITV in 2021.
It was also revealed before the event that The Last Dinner Party, who recently scored a number one album with their debut album Prelude to Ecstasy, had been awarded the ‘Rising Star’ prize. Electronic duo Chase and Status were also given ‘Producer of the Year’.
Meanwhile, all eyes heading into the event were on Raye, the pop sensation who was nominated in seven categories following the release of her debut album, My 21st Century Blues.
