The Brit Awards have shared the shortlist of nominees for next month’s ceremony. The shortlists see rapper Dave and singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi lead the nominations.
The most nominations have fallen on Dave, whose album Psychodrama became one of the records of the year, and Lewis Capaldi, the Chewbacca-mask-wearing nemesis of Noel Gallagher also highlights an issue with the shortlists.
Despite a year chock-full of some of the best female-led music we’ve heard in recent years, the awards show neglected most of those records. Album of the Year is an entirely male-dominated category with only Mabel providing the resistance on the New Artist of the Year and Song of the Year shortlists.
It also sees yet another grime-driven list of nominees with Stormzy, Dave, Aitch and more all getting nods, as the Brits turn the tide on their previously rock-dominated shortlists.
Find the shortlists below and be sure to catch the event on 18th February.
