Brigitte Bardot hits back at death hoax following hospitalisation: “Fake news”

French actor Brigitte Bardot has denied reports of her death, labelling it “fake news”.

Bardot, who is 91, has taken to social media to address the speculation surrounding her health and refute claims that she had passed away.

The actor, who is best known for appearing in movies such as And God Created Woman and Le Mépris, took to X to write: “I don’t know which imbecile launched this fake news tonight about my disappearance but know that I am well and that I have no intention of taking my leave.”

Per The Daily Mail, the death hoax that Bardot was referring to was made by French influencer Aqababe, who has more than a million Instagram followers and specialises in celebrity gossip, in a since-deleted social media post.

Aqababe allegedly shared on Instagram and X: “According to my exclusive information, Brigitte Bardot died today. Her coffin was ordered in Saint-Paul-de-Jarrat in the 09 (Ariège) department.”

Hours later, Bardot took to X on October 22nd to clarify the situation with her health and deny the report.

Notably, last week, it was reported in France that Bardot left her home in Saint-Tropez to receive care in a Toulon hospital.

According to Var Martin, Bardot had been staying at the Saint-Jean private hospital in the region for the past three weeks, where she underwent surgery. They claimed that the medical procedure was “as part of a serious illness” and also stated Bardot “is expected to be released from the hospital in a few days but her condition remains worrying”.

Bardot was previously ill in 2023 when medics visited her home in Saint Tropez due to the retired actor suffering from respiratory problems due to the high temperatures. Her husband, Bernard d’Ormale, explained to Var Martin, “Like all people of a certain age, she can no longer bear the heat. It happens at 88 years old. She must not make useless efforts”.

During a rare interview in 2024 to celebrate her 90th birthday with the French newspaper Le Monde, Bardot provided an update on her life since stepping out of the limelight.

She shared, “My isolation is a choice. It’s a luxury. Silence. Being quiet, with very few people around. Having peace. Without a madding crowd around you. Without being put on display. Solitude, as I embrace it, has always been my dream, and now I embrace it, my dream. I am delighted with my current condition.”
