Bright Eyes share their first new song in 9 years with ‘Persona Non Grata’

At last, there’s some good news to share. Bright Eyes, the indie powerhouses that serenaded us in the noughties have returned with their first new song in nine years, ‘Persona Non Grata’.

It’s a poignant moment, not only because of its significance for the much-loved band but because it’s a reminder of the beautiful vulnerability they brought to the indie scene.

To make matters even better, Conor Oberst & co. say they “will be releasing a new album this year no matter what.” A welcome change from the recent album postponements following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

The first taste of the new album, which is yet to have a title or release date, is the brilliant new single ‘Persona Non Grata’ out via Dead Oceans. The label will be home for the next album and judging by this number, it has all the makings of a great partnership.

The band shared a statement saying, “We wanted to send our love and solidarity to everyone out there feeling alone, frightened and isolated… You are not alone. We are in this together.” You can read the full statement below.

They are releasing the new music with a reunion that many thought unlikely. They rallied to reform “amidst the current overwhelming uncertainty and upheaval of global and personal worlds.”

Listen to the poignant new song from Bright Eyes, the wonderful ‘Persona Non Grata’.
