The legendary member of The Beach Boys, Brian Wilson joined Stephen Colbert for The Late Show to perform two tracks. As well as taking on The Beach Boys classic ‘God Only Knows’, Wilson also sang his 1988 single ‘Love and Mercy’.
In the middle of one of the darkest periods in America’s modern history, entertainment can provide a welcome respite from the world. When that moment of entertainment is counterbalanced by reflection and peace then it’s all the better.
Brian Wilson provided two songs as the musical guest for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, singing his compassionate number ‘Love and Mercy’ taken from his 1988 debut.
Introducing the track Wilson said: “I just want you guys to know that we’re all in this together.” Before delicately navigating through the song’s poignant message.
As well as the solo number, Wilson also sang The Beach Boys hit ‘God Only Knows’, a song, Wilson once thought of as the ultimate love song. Whether its the climate we’re in right now or Wilson’s own understanding of the situation but the performance was exceptional.
It struck a chord as a touching and reflective moment and you can see both performances below.
