Brian De Palma to shoot new movie in Portugal this summer
Legendary director Brian De Palma is reportedly set to shoot his new movie in Portugal in 2026.
The upcoming project from the Scarface director is said to have been titled Sweet Vengeance and will mark his first movie since Domino in 2019.
According to The Film Stage, De Palma is set to film the movie in the summer in Portugal. At this stage, no information has been revealed in regards to who will star in the project.
De Palma first announced plans to make Sweet Vengeance in 2018, which he had initially hoped to shoot in Montevideo, Uruguay.
At the time, he said it was “inspired by two true stories of murders”.
He also explained why the crime drama genre was so appealing to him, adding, “I’m interested in how they tell the story of the crime, so I’ll do it the way [they] do on television, based on two real cases.”
The latest news on De Palma’s next project comes after the 85-year-old quashed retirement rumours during an interview with Vulture in 2024, sharing, “Yes, I have one other film I’m planning to make. And we’re in the process of trying to cast it. I can’t tell you what it is until it happens. Then I’ll be very happy to announce it.”
While De Palma was one of the leading names in cinema throughout the 1970s and ’80s, seemingly unable to do wrong, the director has suffered a number of setbacks in recent decades, with most of his projects flopping since the turn of the millennium.
Nevertheless, while his most recent movies haven’t particularly excited audiences or caused a storm at the box office, Sweet Vengeance is still a project to keep a close eye on due to De Palma’s involvement.
