Martin Scorsese’s influence on the world of cinema is immeasurable, revolutionising the frameworks of popular culture with works of visionary brilliance like Mean Streets and Taxi Driver. That’s exactly why everyone was excited when it was first reported that one of the greatest active filmmakers was going to direct a new and very promising project.
Based on David Grann’s eponymous book, Killers of the Flower Moon is going to be a western crime drama starring the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Jesse Plemons, among others. Set in Oklahoma during the 1920s, Killers of the Flower Moon will investigate the infamous “Reign of Terror” during which brutality dominated the landscape of Osage Nation.
“We are thrilled to finally start production on Killers of the Flower Moon in Oklahoma,” Scorsese said while announcing the project earlier this year. “To be able to tell this story on the land where these events took place is incredibly important and critical to allowing us to portray an accurate depiction of the time and people.”
Adding, “We’re grateful to Apple, the Oklahoma Film and Music Office and The Osage Nation, especially all our Osage consultants and cultural advisors, as we prepare for this shoot. We’re excited to start working with our local cast and crew to bring this story to life on screen and immortalise a time in American history that should not be forgotten.”
The latest addition to the illustrious cast is Canadian-American actor Brendan Fraser who rose to prominence with the popularity of The Mummy films.
According to multiple reports, Fraser is set to play the role of a lawyer named WS Hamilton. The news of this latest development sent fans into a frenzy, with many fervently believing that Killers of the Flower Moon will mark the beginning of the “Brendan Fraser Renaissance”.
