Brandi Carlile raises $600,000 for Minnesotan anti-ICE charity with concert
Brandi Carlile’s recent fundraiser concert in Minneapolis, Minnesota, raised more than $600,000 for families affected by ICE.
The show, titled Be Human: A Concert for Minneapolis, took place at the Target Center on February 21st and was attended by 12,000 people, as well as being watched by thousands more on a live-stream.
The proceeds from the concert and live-stream were donated to the Minnesota-based charity Advocates for Human Rights, which will help families that have been affected by ICE in the region.
In January, protestors Alex Pretti and Renée Good, who were US citizens, were both killed by ICE agents in Minneapolis.
Following the concert, Carlile took to Instagram to write, “Last night was something I’ll never forget. Minnesota is so deeply inspiring to me and the whole country. I can’t believe I got to sing for you and WITH you last night.”
She added, “So many people came together to celebrate your strength and conviction. Together we raised over $600,000 for the advocates for human rights so that they can help and represent thousands of families who desperately need it.”
Carlile also paid thanks to artists who joined her during the concert, and reminded the region, “We hope you know how loved you are Minnesota!”
Additionally, in an interview with Rolling Stone, which was conducted after the show in Minneapolis, Carlile condemned ICE and the Trump administration, stating “it’s very clear that this administration is not interested in legal immigration” but “interested in violent theater”.
The Grammy-winner continued, “I don’t believe most people signed up for that. Even people who voted for Trump, who I’m angry with, I don’t think they voted for this, and I do think that they can still change their minds.”
