Brad Pitt opens up to Sir Anthony Hopkins about his ‘necessary’ struggles

In a stunning new interview with iconic actor Sir Anthony Hopkins, Once Upon A Time Hollywood actor, Brad Pitt opened up about his battles with addiction and his difficulty with processing emotion.

Although Pitt has had a fantastic year professionally, in a new feature with Interview Magazine, the star opened up about his past personal issues with Sir Anthony Hopkins.

The Hollywood star spoke to Hopkins about his battles with alcoholism as well as his struggles processing emotion, claiming he once didn’t cry for nearly 20 years. Pitt says, “I’m realising … that I value those missteps, because they led to some wisdom, which led to something else. You can’t have one without the other.”

Pitt reflected on his past accounts of alcohol abuse, saying he drank to “escape” the hectic lifestyle the surrounds him. He even revealed that he visited Alcoholics Anonymous around the time of his divorce from Angelina Jolie.

Sharing further on his lack of outward emotions he said, “I am quite famously a not-crier. I hadn’t cried in, like, 20 years, and now I find myself, at this latter stage, much more moved — moved by my kids, moved by friends, moved by the news. I’m human. We’re human, we want purpose, we want meaning in our lives. But to attain that, the key is two things: staying creative and being with the people you love.”

Ahead of what is likely to be a busy awards season for Pitt, following his brilliant role as Cliff Booth in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and Roy McBride in Ad Astra, it’s refreshing to see Pitt show his personal side too.
