Brad Pitt in talks to reunite with Quentin Tarantino for final film
A potential reunion is in the works between Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino for the director’s tenth and final project, The Movie Critic.
Tarantino has consistently been discreet regarding the details of the film, but it is said to be set in southern California during the 1970s, focusing on a sceptical film reviewer. Speculation suggests it draws inspiration from the life of Pauline Kael, the influential film critic from The New Yorker during her era.
When asked about the film’s developments at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, Tarantino seemed to avoid any clear-cut answers, explaining, “I can’t tell you guys [anything] until you see the movie. I’m tempted to do some of the character’s monologues right now, but I’m not going to. Maybe if there were less video cameras. You just have to wait and see.”
Pitt and Tarantino collaborated previously in 2009 on Inglourious Basterds and in 2019 on Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, the latter earning Pitt an Oscar for ‘Best Supporting Actor’. Now, a report from Deadline, suggests they’ll team up together again in the near future.
The actor is anticipated to film a Formula One racing project directed by Joseph Kosinski, featuring Pitt as a veteran driver making a comeback to compete with both a rookie racer and the established titans of the sport.
Tarantino’s plans to retire after a tenth film have been well-documented, with all intentions to end his career on a high. In his words: “I know film history and from here on in, filmmakers do not get better. Don Siegel. If he had quit his career in 1979 when he did Escape from Alcatraz, what a final film! What a mic drop. But he dribbles away with two more other ones, he doesn’t mean it,” Tarantino told Bill Maher in 2021.
Although details of The Movie Critic are beginning to emerge, the current status of the agreement with Pitt remains uncertain.
