‘Mickey 17’ director Bong Joon-ho picks his favourite K-pop band

South Korean director Bong Joon-ho, who is responsible for the Oscar-winning film Parasite and the upcoming movie Mickey 17, has revealed his favourite K-pop group.

While promoting his upcoming new movie, the director appeared on Buzzfeed’s viral Puppy Interview. During this interview, he was asked about his favourite K-pop group and revealed he was a particularly big fan of BLACKPINK.

“BLACKPINK,” he offered up quickly when asked about his favourite K-pop band. He was then asked who his favourite member of the four-piece was. “Rosé, Jisoo, Jennie,” he said before concluding, “Everyone.”

Joon-ho was then told that Rosé had recently been a Puppy Interview guest. He laughed at the revelation before saying, “Oh, is that so? This is such a great show, and here I am ruining it. Such beautiful people were supposed to be here.”

Joon-ho was out promoting his upcoming film, Mickey 17. It certainly has a lot to live up to, as the film is his first outing since the Oscar-winning Parasite. Parasite was praised by fans and critics worldwide and became the highest-grossing Korean movie in history.

In a five-star review of the movie, Far Out called Parasite “remarkable” before confirming, “It is so strikingly original; it doesn’t remind the viewer of any other film or category and doesn’t seem to mimic or borrow from anything else. It is difficult even to classify; Bong has referred to it as a tragi-comedy, but it does not fit easily into any particular genre, defying categorisation and evading film conventions as easily as its storyline continually defies expectations.”

His follow-up, Mickey 17, stars Robert Pattinson in the lead role. The film is an adaptation of the novel Mickey7, which follows a man in an alternate world who signs up to be an expendable, which means he can regenerate after death. The highly anticipated Mickey 17 is set for release on March 7th.
