Bon Jovi biopic confirmed by Universal
A biopic centring on the early life and formative years of rock band Bon Jovi is confirmed to be in the works from Universal Pictures.
No further details on the release, casting, or official title of the biopic have yet been solidified. However, it comes as several major production houses were chasing the rights to create the film but Universal closed on a deal.
The news was first reported by Deadline on March 10th, with its current further creative team including Cody Brottar writing the script, alongside Kevin J Walsh and Gotham Chopra, who are serving as producers.
Notably, producer Chopra was also behind the documentary series Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story for Hulu in 2024, honouring the band with full access to their behind-the-scenes lives as they celebrated their 40th anniversary.
Bon Jovi frontman Jon Bon Jovi previously hinted towards the fact that a biopic could be on the horizon while announcing the band’s comeback tour dates last year, telling The Sun he wanted to make one “at some point” and would cast his son, Jake Bongiovi, to play him.
It comes as the classic band are set to play their first full-scale shows since 2022 later this year, with Bon Jovi having suffered a serious case of vocal chord failure in 2024 that required him to undergo surgery.
However, he has fought his way back to singing health in the time that has passed since, with four huge shows planned for Madison Square Garden in New York from July 7th to 14th, before the band heads to the UK and Ireland in August.
Once there, they will play the Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on August 28th, Croke Park in Dublin on August 30th, and Wembley Stadium in London on September 4th.
In terms of plans beyond that, Bon Jovi said at a press conference last year: “I’m not thinking about the future of the outcomes. I’m really just being right here right now, and that’s all that I care about. The rest of it happens, great, but it’s not about numbers and tomorrows.”
