Bon Iver and a group of musicians including the legendary Bruce Springsteen and Jenny Lewis have collaborated on a brand new politically-charged single ‘AUATC’.
The title stands for ‘Ate Up All Their Cake’ and acts as a staunch anti-capitalist single and sees further collaboration from Wye Oak’s Jenn Wasner and Rivulare’s Elsa Jensen.
As well as the single, the group have also shared a new video to go along with it. Directed by Aaron Anderson and Eric Timothy Carlson it’s an innocently animated lesson in capitalism.
Sharing the single and the video, Bon Iver was also keen to share further reading and various charitable organisations in the hope fans will donate to the good causes. Including, 350.org, Equal Justice Initiative, Minneapolis Movement Sanctuary, Red Letter Grant and NIVA.
“We’re calling attention to the fight against capitalism and our collective participation in its institutions,” the band wrote on their Twitter page.
“Bon Iver acknowledges our position within and use of capitalistic practices. We recognize our privilege and commit to using our platform to challenge capitalism everywhere.”
Bon Iver’s ‘Season 5’ project has seen the band already release ‘PDLIF’ which stands for ‘Please Don’t Live In Fear’ or ‘Episode 1’. With episode 2 coming with such heavy-hitters, the rest of the project promises to be something special.
