Bob Vylan announce last-minute show at 100 Club in London amid Glastonbury backlash
Bob Vylan, the punk duo at the heart of controversy since the BBC aired their Glastonbury performance, which included strong political messaging against Israel, have announced a last-minute gig at London’s 100 Club on July 9th.
Following the backlash, Bob Vylan were dropped from Manchester’s Radar Festival, which took place on July 4th to 6th. This was due to pressure on the alternative festival, the band led the crowd through a chant of “Death to the IDF,” referencing the Israel Defence Forces. They also chanted “Free Palestine” and “From the river to the sea.”
In reaction, Radar Festival said it was “forced” to drop the band and organiser Catherine Jackson-Smith has insisted elsewhere that she “wanted Bob Vylan to perform at our festival.”
However, the evening before their original headline slot, Bob Vylan made their debut in Greece to open for The Prodigy in Athens. Now, the band have announced a last-minute show at the famous Soho venue. The tickets for the 320 spaces sold out quickly, and a waiting list is now operating through the Dice app.
The information on Dice, the event app the band have used to sell the tickets, describes Bob Vylan as a band “bridging together punk, grime and hip-hop with a brazen political punch.” It also highlights that “Bob Vylan aren’t afraid to speak their minds on racism, class and capitalism.”
Meanwhile, their album Humble As The Sun has re-entered the UK charts. Despite being dropped from their former management company, United Talent Agents, they took the top spot on the UK hip-hop and R&B charts. The album also rose to number seven in the Official Charts and number eight in the independent charts.
Currently, only Bob Vylan is on the bill. In the same venue, Irish hip-hop trio Kneecap also announced a last-minute show only hours before it kicked off in May of this year. Facing similar controversy at the time for pro-Palestine displays, it marked their first concert after Mo Chara was charged with a terror offence.
