Blood Orange, AKA Dev Hynes, is continuing his very particular and defining style as he shares the brand new visual for album track ‘Chewing Gum’. The song is taken from his latest LP Negro Swan which is destined to be at the top of a few end of year lists.
The artist has long been a champion of pursuing one’s own style and defining it with every output and without a shadow of a doubt, Hynes has certainly done that. Not least through his music but with his visual creativity as well as costuming and similar.
Latest video ‘Chewing Gum’ sees the same stylistic choices which have governed his previous visual output on ‘Saint’ and ‘Jewelry‘. Both of which feature don Negro Swan as well, which is proving to be a seminal moment in Hynes’ career.
Negro Swan, one of this year’s most lauded records, was written and produced by Hynes. Says Hynes: “My newest album is an exploration into my own and many types of black depression, an honest look at the corners of black existence, and the ongoing anxieties of queer/people of color. A reach back into childhood and modern traumas, and the things we do to get through it all. The underlying thread through each piece on the album is the idea of HOPE, and the lights we can try to turn on within ourselves with a hopefully positive outcome of helping others out of their darkness.”
