Blondie announce a six-track Havana film soundtrack

New York new-wave legends Blondie have today announced the release of the unique six-track soundtrack: Blondie: Vivir en La Habana. Primed for release on 16th July via BMG, the soundtrack is from a new short film surrounding the band’s 2019 live debut in Havana, Cuba. It will be available on a limited edition blue vinyl and is available to pre-order/pre-save now.

Blondie had always dreamed of playing a show in Havana, thus making the film and soundtrack a momentous occasion for them and audiences. The film is set for its UK premiere at the Sheffield Doc/Fest and North American debut at the illustrious Tribeca Film Festival, both in June.

In what is sure to be a special treat for fans, the film will feature Blondie classics but with an added Cuban twist. Debbie Harry, Clem Burke and the gang perform hits such as ‘Heart of Glass’, ‘The Tide is High’, ‘Rapture’ and more alongside Cuban band, Sintesis.

In a press release, frontwoman Debbie Harry has said: We had wonderful Cuban musicians join us for the performances – vocalists, percussionists, horn players – they added a terrific level of excitement to our songs. On ‘The Tide Is High’, Síntesis vocalists Ele Valdés and Maria del Carmen Avila sang with me and did the original harmonies that John Holt had put on the song, it was incredibly beautiful.” The ‘Atomic’ singer concludes, “Latin music has always been part of the feel of New York, so it was amazing to finally be able to put a very personal touch on the heartbeat of Cuba. VIVA!”

Iconic drummer of Blondie, Clem Burke also added to the excitement: “This was a great opportunity to experience the sights and sounds of Cuba. It is such a beautiful and friendly country. There is so much appreciation for art, music and nature. The Cuban people have a joy for life, and it was amazing to experience that first hand.”

The film will discuss the influence of Cuban artists, politics and the last minute disappointment that guitarist Chris Stein couldn’t make the trip. Directed by Rob Roth, the film features the live highlights and meditative narration from Debbie, Chris and Clem. More excitingly, there will be behind-the-scenes moments captured of the band enjoying their time in Cuba.
