Watch Black Flag’s new Gen-Z line-up play first live show

In April, Greg Ginn announced a new Gen-Z line-up of hardcore band Black Flag, and the new iteration has now played their first live show in Bulgaria.

Black Flag have had many line-up changes over the years, but this year’s shake-up is their biggest yet following the departure of vocalist Mike Vallely after more than a decade as their frontman. Ginn is now joined in the group by Max Zanelly, David Rodriguez and Brian Weston, who are all relatively unknown figures and decades younger than 71-year-old Ginn.

Upon announcing the line-up change, the band said: “We’re turning the page. BLACK FLAG is entering a new era — and we’re hyped to welcome three incredible new members… the new lineup is already in the studio and the rehearsal space — writing, jamming, and bringing fresh energy.”

They also promised their “upcoming performances will showcase the chemistry and talent of the revitalized lineup, giving fans a first taste of the new era.”

Since Ginn reunited the band in 2013, they have only released one album, What The…, which was recorded with vocalist Ron Reyes, who departed during the same calendar year as he joined.

The new incarnation of the punk band’s European tour kicked off at Mixtape 5 in Sofia on June 10th and they will continue to play across the continent throughout the month.

Black Flag’s itinerary also includes stops in Thessaloniki, Athens, Paris, Tours, Dublin, Birmingham, London, Prague, Munich, Berlin, Hamburg and Frankfurt. In August, they will play a series of shows in Spain as well as festivals in Portugal, Croatia and Italy before returning to the US for another batch of headline dates.

Footage of their show in Sofia is available to watch below.
