Björk announces theatrical release date for ‘Cornucopia’ concert film
Björk has confirmed that she will premiere her concert film, Cornucopia, in global theatres on May 7th. The film will showcase her avant-garde live performance style in a way that no other live film has ever done.
Björk has enlisted the help of several animators and artisans to bring her show to life. At one hour and 39 minutes long, the film will bring her show to life as she performs songs from her records Utopia and Fossora.
The film will also create a postapocalyptic utopia without environmental features, which is in line with Björk’s previous work as an activist. In addition to the movie, Björk also confirmed that she will screen three music videos on the big screen, all of which she produced herself.
Her first show on this tour began in New York in 2019. There were some pauses in her tour because of the pandemic, but by the end of her run of shows, Björk had brought her live performance to 45 different places in four different continents over the course of four years.
During the shows, Björk’s team projected visuals onto a number of rotating curtains. These created a digitally animated experience, which will be drawn upon once again during the live screenings of her concert film. Also, during her gigs, she used instruments such as a magnetic harp and an aluphone. When discussing the tour, Björk admitted that it was “the most ambitious project I’ve travelled with”.
Cornucopia will be available globally on May 7th; however, it will be available in Spain on May 8th, Canada on May 9th and France on May 11th. It will be featured in 500 theatres in over 25 countries, including Brazil, Germany and Denmark.
Tickets for the concert film Cornucopia will be on general sale on March 27th.
