Billy Joel postpones upcoming concerts due to surgery: “My health must come first”

Billy Joel has been forced to rearrange a number of his upcoming concerts due to undergoing surgery.

Joel will be taking a four-month break from the stage before returning to action this summer at the at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on July 5th. However, a number of planned shows before then will now take place at a later date.

The move has been made to allow the ‘Piano Man‘ singer to “recover from recent surgery and to undergo physical therapy under the supervision of his doctors.” It’s also noted that “Joel is expected to make a full recovery.”

While the specifics of Joel’s health condition have not been revealed, he did say in a statement that his health is currently his priority, commenting, “While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first. I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding.”

The postponement affects his planned tour dates in the United Kingdom, which include concerts at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium and Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium. These two performances will now take place in June 2026.

Meanwhile, his Detroit concert at Ford Field will now take place on November 15th, 2025. Toronto, Syracuse, Salt Lake City, and Charlotte have all been pushed back until 2026. The only rescheduled date yet to be given a new tour date is Milwaukee, which will be decided at a later date.

Although he’s not returning to the stage for a series of months, Joel is still scheduled to perform a handful of stadium shows in 2025 and he will be joined across the dates by Stevie Nicks, Sting and Rod Stewart.

Joel is yet to release a traditional album since 1993’s River of Dreams but did return in 2024 with the standalone single ‘Turn The Lights Back On’. After the song arrived, Joel explained his hiatus from recording during an appearance on Audacy Check-In, stating, “It was fun. Music is fun. Rock ‘n’ roll was fun. It was all about having fun — and I kind of lost that and I turned the lights off because it wasn’t fun anymore.”
