Billy Bragg confirms North American tour dates
Billy Bragg has announced a run of shows in the US and Canada later this year.
Bragg will kick things off on June 18th at the Lighthouse Arts Centre in Halifax, before stopping in the likes of Massachusetts, New Jersey, Maine, and Nebraska.
In July, the ‘A New England’ singer will perform in the likes of Montreal, Kingston, and Ontario, which he will follow up with appearances at Winnipeg Folk Festival and Ottawa Blues Festival.
In the post that announced the new run of tour dates, the singer-songwriter wrote, “It’s been over a decade since I had a run of Canadian dates, so I’m excited to be playing shows from Halifax to Winnipeg this summer – with a short excursion down to the US to play a set of Mermaid Avenue songs with Wilco at Solid Sound.”
He added wistfully, “Hope and empathy are in short supply at the moment so seems like a good time to reconnect.”
In keeping with the closing statement, Bragg’s last release, titled ‘City of Heroes‘, was a charged political ballad in support of anti-ICE protestors in Minneapolis.
In a statement explaining the song, the singer, who rose to fame in the 1980s, shared, “I wrote this song as a tribute to the bravery of the people of Minneapolis. Knowing that these trigger-happy ICE thugs operate in their midst, they are still willing to put themselves in harm’s way to defend their community.”
Beyond his own run of the US and Canada, Bragg will be accompanying Squeeze on tour at the latter end of the year.
