Billie Eilish recently performed the title track of her new album, Happier Than Ever, while making an appearance on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.
Billie Eilish performed the song on a separate studio stage, decked-out with the peach background, which is also the backdrop for the album cover. Eilish took centre stage, with brother Finneas flanking her with his acoustic guitar and a drummer to the rear.
The song begins with projections of clouds floating over the background. However, as the second half kicks in, the lights explode into life, flashing with epileptic vibrancy. Eilish doesn’t hold anything back either, jumping around and head-banging as the song reaches its crescendo. Hayley Williams, eat your heart out.
In the accompanying interview, Eilish explained to Fallon that the song is one she is the most excited to play live when she heads out on her world tour next year. Speaking of which, he has just added her sixth and final London date, so make sure to check it out.
She also gave Fallon a sneak-preview of the new animated live concert film she has been making with Disney+. Eilish performed a short snippet of the album track ‘Oxytocin’ alongside a couple of short animated sequences.
Eilish has been going from strength to strength these last few years. Her new album is already out-selling every other top ten album and has garnered fantastic reviews pretty much all around. It’s certainly her most mature work to date, and it oozes with confidence. It’s also great to see that Eilish has written a record which, despite Covid-19, seems designed to play live. It crackles with energy and is full to the brim with belt-worthy choruses, all of which I’m sure her fans are eager to sing at the top of their lungs, as Eilish burns through her tour.
