Billie Eilish condemns ICE and Donald Trump’s administration: “We’re seeing our neighbours being kidnapped”

Billie Eilish has condemned ICE following the recent killing of Renee Nicole Good in Minnesota by federal immigration agent Jonathan Ross.

On January 17th, Eilish was awarded the ‘2026 MLK Jr Beloved Community Environmental Justice Award presented by the King Center’ at a ceremony in Atlanta, and used the occasion to hit out against the current administration for a myriad of reasons.

Eilish was being celebrated for her work in the environmental sector, having donated $11.5 million to The Changemaker Program, a charitable initiative that aims to support organisations around the world that address food insecurity and the climate crisis.

However, in her speech, Eilish explained why she is losing hope that change is on the horizon, stating (via Rolling Stone), “It’s very strange to be celebrated for working towards environmental justice at a time where it feels less achievable than ever given the state of our country and the world right now.”

Eilish’s powerful speech continued, “We’re seeing our neighbours being kidnapped, peaceful protesters being assaulted and murdered, our civil rights being stripped, resources to fight the climate crisis being cut for fossil fuels and animal agriculture destroying our planet, and people’s access to food and healthcare becoming a privilege for the wealthy instead of a new basic human right for all Americans.”

Similarly, in October, at the WSJ Innovator Awards, Eilish said, “We’re in a time right now where the world is really, really bad and really dark and people need empathy and help in our country.”

She also called upon billionaires to put their hands in their pockets, adding, “I’d say if you have money, it would be great to use it for good things and give it to some people that need it. Love you all, but there’s a few people in here that have a lot more money than me.”

Following Good’s death on January 7th, Eilish reposted a series of posts on Instagram Stories attacking ICE, describing them as “a federally funded and supported terrorist group under the Department of Homeland Security that has done nothing to make our streets safer”.

The Department of Homeland Security responded by claiming to Billboard that Good “was impeding law enforcement and weaponized her vehicle in an attempt to kill or cause bodily harm to federal law enforcement”.
