Bill Hader will take huge role in new ‘The Cat in the Hat’ animated remake
Bill Hader is a renowned comic, writer and actor; however, some of his most prominent roles have come from voice acting work. He has starred in Monsters University, Inside Out and Finding Dory. Now, he can add The Cat in the Hat to his list of voice-acting roles.
Making a large creative leap from apathetic serial killer Barry, it was confirmed recently that Bill Hader will be voicing the Cat in the upcoming remake of The Cat in the Hat. With a diverse range that has seen him take on the likes of BB8 and the emotion of Fear, Bill Hader may well be the perfect casting for the role.
Expected to release on March 6th, 2026, Hader will be joined on screen by a star-studded cast, which includes Quinta Brunson, Bowen Yang, Matt Berry, Paula Pell and Xochitl Gomez. The movie is written and directed by Alessandro Carloni and Erica Rivinoja and is a joint effort by Dr Seuss Enterprises and Warner Bros.
The animation won’t be the first time that Bill Hader has portrayed the Cat in the Hat as he previously took to the role in a five-minute skit during his time on Saturday Night Live. While he might already have experience in the role, his animated iteration of the character will likely differ from his comedic portrayal in 2015.
In the sketch, the joke was that the Cat had previously been in a relationship with the children’s mother. “You’ve cut me out of this picture,” he said to the mother halfway through his song and dance around the living room.
The original book was published in 1957, and since then, The Cat in the Hat has cemented itself as a fundamental part of children’s literature. His look of the red and white hat and bowtie are iconic, to the point that he is recognised by people worldwide.
Warner Bros Animation President Bill Damaschke said in a recent interview that he was “Overjoyed” to partner with Dr Seuss Enterprises. He said, “With this incredible voice cast led by Bill Hader as the fun-loving, agent of chaos himself and our filmmakers Alessandro and Erica at the helm, we look forward to sharing this Seussian cinematic spectacle with audiences everywhere.”
