Big Thief release charity EP following Los Angeles wildfires
Big Thief has released the new charity EP, entitled Passional Relations, raising funds to help the community of Los Angeles following the devastating wildfires.
Last month, thousands of people lost their homes in the Los Angeles region as wildfires caused unimaginable damage to the city, especially the Pacific Palisades and Eaton neighbourhoods. 28 people also lost their lives, 17 of which occurred in the Palisades fire, and the other 12 happened in the Eaton fire.
In light of the tragedy, the musical community of Los Angeles have put on a united front to raise vital money to help those adversely affected by the wildfires. Significantly, over $60 million was raised last week thanks to the two FireAid concerts, which included performances from Nirvana, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, Lady Gaga and No Doubt.
Moreover, viewers of the Grammys raised millions of dollars for the vital cause, and the Los Angeles Fire Department were also given the honour of presenting the coveted ‘Album of the Year’ award.
Now, Big Thief have released the five-track EP, Passional Relations, with the majority of proceeds going to the Plus1LA Fires Fund, a charity that supports organisations in Los Angeles that are providing essential services such as housing and education during this critical period.
In a statement, Big Thief shared, “Our hearts are broken for everyone affected by the fires in California. We’ve put together some of our favorite unreleased songs into an EP called Passional Relations, only available on our webstore, and all proceeds will go toward providing relief for those impacted by the fires in Los Angeles.”
Furthermore, part of the proceeds will be given to local musicians and community members in Los Angeles who require financial support due to the wildfires.
“Our hope is that these contributions will not only help address the crucial and immediate needs of affected communities but also help sustain the work, identity, and culture of the artists within them,” Big Thief added.
