Big Thief founding member Buck Meek has shared a beautiful new single, ‘Roll Back Your Clocks’, which arrives as the first song since the musician’s 2018 self-titled debut LP, on in which Adrienne Lenker and Dave Harrington contributed to.
The latest single from Meek is a stunning reminder of the musical talent within Big Thief. The song was written during the health crisis lockdown and initially recorded with Meek performing simply on his acoustic guitar.
That sweet simplicity isn’t lost on the new recording as the atmospheric arrangement lends itself perfectly to Meek’s gentle lilt and vocal tenderness.
The arrangement came as Meek, at the request of his producer Andrew Sarlo, sent the track off to his bandmates Adam Brisbin, Mat Davidson, Austin Vaughan and Ken Woodward to record their own separate pieces. Those pieces were then stitched together by Sarlo and the results are below.
The song’s content is Meek speaking to his audience with “a reminder to trust our telepathic instincts, and to value the connection with our loved ones as something that we always have access to, even in solitude, regardless of proximity,” the singer told Consequence of Sound.
“It felt healing to create, and we hope that it will help bring some sense of peace to you.”
