Best Friends have released a new track to coincide with their upcoming tour dates. ‘Cold Shapes’ from Sheffield four-piece Best Friends has the kind of lo-fi majesty to get the night underway, but all in the hope of a sunny weekend.
‘Cold Shapes’ is taken from the forthcoming LP Hot. Reckless. Totally Insane which is to be released via Fat Cat Records on 4th July, and it shows a more accomplished musicality that matches the energy of the band’s previous releases.
It reeks of a band comfortable enough to change their style from the rip-roaring riffs and colossal rhythm to something with more artistry and genuine pop sensibilities. The drenching of the guitar in hazy chords is only further complimented by the kind of harmonies you sing between friends whilst in fields of carefree daisy chains.
It’s gentle and compelling but still keeps Best Friends at the forefront of the British guitar scene. Adding nuances of garage and Britpop to an otherwise rock and roll set up the band are spreading their wings with ‘Cold Shapes’, let’s hope they take off.
