Benny Safdie, Elliot Page and John Leguizamo join the cast of Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’
Christopher Nolan’s next project, The Odyssey, based on the epic poem by Homer, has added three major new names to its cast, including Benny Safdie.
Following the release of Oppenheimer in 2023, Nolan and Universal Pictures announced that they would be working together again for his next project, The Odyssey. Adapting the Grecian epic poem into a piece of epic cinema, the initial cast announced was already an all-star bunch.
The first cast announcements saw Matt Damon, Tom Hollands, Anne Hathaway, Robert Patterson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron and more added to the project.
John Leguizamo is one of the latest names added, alongside Safdie, the director and actor who makes up one-half of the Safdie Brothers. While better known for his directing work, Safdie worked with Nolan before as an actor in Oppenheimer.
Elliot Page has also been added to the cast. Having previously collaborated on Inception, Page is another actor already familiar with Nolan’s work who is being brought on board for this new project.
Given the calibre of the cast and the legacy of its source material, The Odyssey is set to be a huge undertaking for Nolan.
It’s also an adventurous project in terms of filming and production as Universal said last month that the movie “is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology.” The budget is reported as $250 million, making it the most expensive film of Nolan’s career to date. Filming is expected to start in February 2025, with a prospective release date of July 2026 in the calendar.
