Baftas TV 2024: ‘The Crown’ leads the full list of nominations

The nominations for the 2024 TV Baftas have been announced, with Netflix being among the most decorated studios thanks to The Crown and Black Mirror.

The Netflix series, which detailed the life and times of the modern royal family in The Crown, has long been a Bafta favourite, collecting three awards over the years along with a bounty of other nominations. The latest series, which detailed the tragic death of Princess Diana, with Elizabeth Debicki portraying the 1990s icon, has received eight nominations at the 2024 Baftas.

Close behind on seven nominations is the surprising inclusion of the final episode of Black Mirror season six, ‘Demon 79’, a horror tale set in Northern England in 1979 where a woman is forced to commit several atrocities to save the planet. Although the episode gained little appreciation from fans, critics adored its stylised change of pace from the usual monotony of dystopian sci-fi that the series regularly offers up.

Elsewhere, in the ‘Best Drama’ category, the likes of Happy Valley, Slow Horses, The Gold and Top Boy will each be battling it out for the esteemed prize. Both Happy Valley and Top Boy celebrated their respective final seasons in 2024, with the latter becoming one of Netflix’s greatest-ever series in the process, finishing off the work that was initially set up by Channel 4 back in 2011.
