Elsa Raven, the ‘Back To The Future’ actor, has died aged 91

Elsa Raven, who was best known for her roles in Back to the Future and Amen, sadly passed away on Monday at the age of 91.

Raven was born Elsa Rabinowitz but, after she began performing in New York City, she decided she needed a new stage name and landed on Raven. After she went on to have a fruitful career working across both television and film, Raven got her first movie role in 1970 in The Honeymoon Killers where she played a matron. Perhaps her most well-known role which will go down as being her best when she played the woman protecting the clocktower in Back To The Future.

Another memorable role came when Raven played the realtor who sold the house in Amityville Horror. Her final film role then came in 2011 when she took on the character of Mrs. Harrison in Answers to Nothing, which was after 40 years later from when she first appeared on the big screen.

The actor also had a role in Titanic and featured in the Celine Dion video as part of the couple in the stateroom where water poured in. Raven had an illustrious career with a CV packed full of television credits which include many one-off performances as well as recurring roles. Her most famous one-off performances came in Seinfeld and The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.

Raven was a mainstay in both Amen and Wiseguy, she appeared in multiple seasons of both programmes. In Amen, she played a maid called Inga and took on the character of Carlotta Terranova, Vinnie’s mother, from 1987 to 1990 in Wiseguy. Raven also landed a recurring role in Days of Our Lives, which she was in for multiple years until 1999.

The actor is survived by her sister-in-law Lynne Rabinowitz and her 15 nieces and nephews.
